📍 From Plaza San Martin, Argentina
The Monumento a San Martín is a memorial located in the heart of the city of Córdoba, Argentina, dedicated to Jose de San Martín, leader of the struggle for independence of Argentina, Chile and Peru. It was inaugurated in 1904, built at the end of Córdoba's grand Avenida Vélez Sársfield, and stands at the height of 26 metres. This grand monument is a white marble obelisk with a bronze eagle on the top, sculpted by the Italian artist Alejandro Ravizza, as well as four bronze sculptures of important personalities of the Argentine independence, including José de San Martín himself. Although the monument is very imposing and impressive, it’s also surrounded by a wide garden which frames the monument’s landmark in a rather peaceful way. Visitors can visit the monument daily and take a self-guided tour to learn more about this historical monument and the men that were featured on it.
