Monumento a José Calvo Sotelo is a prominent memorial to one of the most important political figures in Spanish history. Rising out of a bustling plaza near the Puerta del Sol, the monument was created by architect Francisco Javier Godínez Marugan. The base features four figures representing Justice, Education, Progress, and Social Assistance. The uppermost level features a statue of Sotelo, looking out into the distance, with a metalwork mural of Madrid’s coat of arms behind him. A perfect photo opportunity, this marvel of Madrid, constructed in 1950, is the best way to honor and remember this great leader.
