The Monumento a Domenico Modugno stands on the seafront of Polignano a Mare, the Apulian town where the celebrated singer-songwriter was born. The bronze statue depicts Modugno with arms flung wide, echoing the exuberant performance of “Nel blu dipinto di blu,” universally known as “Volare.” Created by sculptor Hermann Mejer, the figure has become a modern emblem of the town’s connection to Italian popular music. Its outstretched silhouette, weathered bronze surface, and backdrop of Adriatic blue create a recognizable composition, while the nearby steps and waterfront place the monument within Polignano’s lively coastal landscape.
