Montelupone is a compact hill town in the Marche, in the province of Macerata between the Adriatic coast and the region’s rolling interior. Its historic center preserves a distinctly medieval plan, with brick lanes climbing within fortified walls toward Piazza del Comune. The square is defined by the Palazzo del Podestà and its civic tower, whose Gothic details and warm masonry embody the architecture of central Italy’s smaller communes. Arched gateways, worn stone, tiled roofs and closely layered façades offer strong textures and framing, while openings along the walls reveal cultivated hills stretching toward the wider Marche landscape. Montelupone is also closely associated with its locally grown artichoke, an enduring part of the town’s agricultural identity.
