Montebello Castle, situated on a hill outside the Swiss city of Bellinzona, is a historic monument and an historical site of national importance. Built in the 13th century, this fortification has played an important role in Swiss history. It consists of three separate fortifications, each of which was adapted over time to meet the changing defensive needs of the city and is protected by the UNESCO World Heritage program. A visit to Montebello Castle is a wonderful way to experience Swiss history. The castle is open to the public, and visitors can explore its towers, walls, courtyards and turrets.
