Monte Civetta is a 3,220-metre peak in the Dolomites of Belluno, rising between the Agordino area and Val di Zoldo and forming a dramatic backdrop above Alleghe. Its defining feature is the vast north-west face, a sheer wall of pale dolomite celebrated in Alpine climbing history, while the summit ridge breaks into towers and jagged teeth characteristic of the Civetta group. From around Alleghe, the mountain appears especially monumental across the lake, where calm water can mirror its layered cliffs; higher viewpoints near Lago Coldai reveal the massif at closer scale. The rock shifts from cool grey to warm gold and pink in low light, emphasizing vertical fissures, ledges and the contrast between bare walls, scree and dark conifer forest.
