Mont Saint-Michel is an iconic destination in France. Located on the border of Normandy and Brittany in North-Western France, the abbey and fortified village are perched atop an island in the middle of a bay connected by a causeway. It is a popular destination for visitors for its stunning medieval architecture and one of the world's most famous sights. It was also crowned one of the Wonders of the West in a 2012 poll. Built in the 8th century as a Benedictine shrine, the abbey and site were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979.
