Mons station
📍 Belgium
Mons station (Gare de Mons) is the principal railway hub serving the city of Mons in Hainaut province, Wallonia. It functions as the main arrival point for regional and intercity trains on the Belgian rail network, linking Mons with Brussels, Charleroi, and other Walloon and Flemish centres, and providing onward connections to international services. Its importance lies in being both a transportation node and the civic gateway to Mons’s historic core, located within easy walking distance of the Grand-Place, museums and cultural sites.

The station traces its origins to the 19th-century railway expansion that connected industrial Wallonia to national markets; subsequent refurbishments have modernized passenger facilities while retaining elements of the original station character. Architecturally it combines practicality—multiple platforms, covered concourse—and conserved historic detailing at the frontage and ticketing areas. Unique local notes: the station becomes especially busy during the annual Ducasse de Mons (Doudou) festival, a UNESCO‑recognized event, and it offers coordinated local bus and taxi links for festival access. Bicycle parking and park-and-ride options support commuter use.
