📍 Italy
Monopoli is a port city on Puglia’s Adriatic coast, southeast of Bari, where a compact old town meets a working harbor. Its seafront walls and sixteenth-century Castle of Charles V recall the need to defend this stretch of coast, while the Baroque Cathedral of Maria Santissima della Madia rises above narrow streets of whitewashed houses and pale limestone. At the Porto Vecchio, small blue fishing boats contrast with weathered quays and waterfront façades, giving the harbor a recognizable palette of blue, white and honey-colored stone. Around the old town’s southern edge, Cala Porta Vecchia places a small beach directly beneath the defensive walls, bringing bathing life and historic masonry into the same scene.
