
Monastero di Santa Maria di Poblet is an impressive Cistercian Monastery, located in Poblet, near Tarragona, in the heart of Catalonia, Spain. It was built between 1150 and 1230 and boasts a total of 24,000 square metres of buildings and grounds. Annually, countless visitors come to admire its Gothic and Romanesque-style architecture as well as its Flemish tapestries and paintings from the 15th - 17th centuries. Its charming and peaceful natural environment adds to the attractiveness of the place. A must-see for any visitor is the Chapel of the Royal Pantheon where kings and their families are buried. There is also a museum where visitors can further explore the works of botany, archaeology, library and numismatics. Monastero de Santa Maria de Poblet has been declared a World Heritage Site since 1991 and is considered one of the best preserved monasteries of Europe.
