Monastero di Santa Maria di Poblet is a beautiful 12th-century Cistercian abbey located in the village of Poblet, 16 miles from Reus, in the Spanish province of Tarragona. Centuries-old white stone walls, surrounding a royal residence and the abbey, form a stunning historic monument. Inside lies a center of Christian research, where visitors can hear monks singing serene passages of Gregorian chant. Fine examples of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque art can be seen in the clousters, chapels, and halls, including a 15th-century cloister with interesting geometric wood carvings. The historic living quarters and store rooms are also open to the public.
