The Hot-Air Balloon Launch Area in Al Qarna lies on Luxor’s West Bank, where cultivated fields meet the desert landscape of the Theban necropolis. Before sunrise, balloon crews spread enormous envelopes across the ground, then illuminate them with burner flames before the baskets lift over the Nile Valley. The scene is distinctive for its contrasts: glowing fabric against the blue dawn, palms and farmland below, and the rugged Theban cliffs beyond.
