The Mississippi State Capitol is a historic building located in the capital city of Jackson. It was completed in 1903 and is the third state capitol in Mississippi's history. The Capitol building contains many architectural irregularity and displays a Beaux-Arts style. The outside walls are made of limestone and granite, and the building has six Corinthian columns guarding the main entrance. Several granite statues decorate the grounds around the Capitol building. Inside, visitors will find skylighted dome above the rotunda, and the Chamber of the House of Representatives, as well as other state offices. The state legislative chambers are open to visitors throughout the year during normal working hours, and the building is a popular destination for both tourists and locals alike.
