The Miradouro da Cruz dos Remédios, in Peniche, Portugal, is a stunning viewing balcony overlooking the coastal fishing town’s beach and harbor, with distant islands off in the horizon. With strong historical and cultural significance, you can easily see why it has been named a Monument of Public Interest by the Portuguese Government. The expansive balcony is perfect for taking in the area’s breathtaking views of rugged cliffs kissing the rolling Atlantic Ocean and beach-goers basking in the sun. Beside the balcony stands a monument in the shape of a large wooden cross, which was erected in 1968 on the spot of the original pillar built in 1636 and destroyed in the 1755 earthquake. The monument symbolizes the greatness of Christianity in Portugal and likely looks its most majestic during a gorgeous sunset.
