The Mira River, located in Vila Nova de Milfontes, Portugal, is a stunningly beautiful area to explore. The area is particularly popular with swimmers and fishermen, due to its shallow, translucent waters and accessible riverbanks. Dolphins, sea eagles and a diversity of other species are also common sights in the river. The views of the surrounding cliffs and gorges, typical of the Portuguese landscape, line the banks of the river. The Mira River is also home to a number of small villages and old fishing boats, or Barcos Rabelos, adding to its rustic charm. A favorite activity among locals is the Alvorada da Pesca, the traditional saluting of the dawn of the fishers, in which boats are decorated with lanterns, flags, fountains and music. A perfect day out in the Mira River would be a combination of nature and culture.
