The Millennium Bridge is a pedestrian and cyclist footbridge linking the banks of the River Tyne between Gateshead and Newcastle upon Tyne, in North East England! Opened in 2001, it was the first and only bridge across the river in the city center, and is one of the city's most iconic symbols. With a sleek, modern design and offering breathtaking views of the river and the surrounding cityscape, the bridge is a popular walkway among locals and tourists alike. Along with its sister bridge, the Gateshead Millennium Bridge, the two structures essentially link two previously separated city centers, with the two structures formed in an X-pattern, which has become known fondly as the ‘Blinking Eye'.
