Michigan Avenue
📍 United States
Michigan Avenue is one of Chicago’s principal north–south streets, connecting the Magnificent Mile shopping district north of the Chicago River with Millennium Park, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the historic building frontage facing Grant Park farther south. This downtown stretch brings together two defining sides of the city: commercial skyscrapers and a broad lakefront landscape devoted to parks and cultural institutions. At the river crossing, the DuSable Bridge frames the Wrigley Building’s white terra-cotta clock tower and the Tribune Tower’s Gothic Revival crown, creating one of the avenue’s most recognizable architectural scenes. Farther south, rows of older masonry façades form a distinct “street wall” along Grant Park, where the contrast between dense urban frontage and open green space becomes especially clear.
