Mercat Municipal de Xàbia is the covered food market in the town’s historic centre, beside the fortified church of Sant Bartomeu, distinct from the coastal neighbourhoods of the port and Arenal. Built on the site of a former convent, its church-like hall has pointed stone arches and a lofty roof that give everyday shopping a monumental setting. Fish, meat, fruit and vegetable stalls reflect Xàbia’s connections to both the Mediterranean and the surrounding agricultural landscape. Inside, the repeated arches frame long views through the market, contrasting the pale stone structure with colourful produce displays and the activity around the counters.
