Memorial Amphitheater
📍 United States
The Memorial Amphitheater in Arlington is a national shrine and one of the largest in the United States. Located on the grounds of Arlington National Cemetery, the amphitheater was completed in 1920 in memory of the fallen soldiers of WWI. Its design is based on Graeco-Roman amphitheaters, due to its classically inspired columns, paths and urns. There are numerous statues and monuments commemorating battles and leaders from the Civil War. The amphitheater also holds an annual Memorial Day ceremony and President Reagan’s 25th anniversary of his first inauguration. It has a seating capacity of 6,500 to honor those who gave their lives for the nation. With the steps that surround it, shady trees dotting the area and stunning views of the monuments and flags, visitors of the amphitheater can take a moment to remember, reflect and appreciate those who gave their lives for the United States.
