The Mausoleo di Gabriele d'Annunzio and the Vittoriale degli Italiani are two spectacular complexes located in the charming Italian town of Gardone Riviera, on Lake Gardone. The mausoleum is dedicated to the Italian poet, war hero and political activist Gabriele d'Annunzio, and the "Vittoriale" is the estate and residence of the same man. The two sites are richly decorated in an eclectic style, blending elements of naturalism, Militarism and traditionalist architecture. The Mausoleo is an imposing and futuristic bronze monument, with a central totem topped by a marble horse. Inside, there is a bust of the poet and a large bronze sarcophagus. The Vittoriale was home to d'Annunzio during his last years and is beautifully decorated, with luxurious gardens, terraces and stunning decorations, such as the majestic Eagle's Nest and the imposing Amphitheatre. Both sites are open to visitors and provide a unique experience and insight of one of the great personalities of modern Italian history.
