📍 From Riffelseeweg, Switzerland
Matterhorn, or better known as Monte Cervino in Italian, is a 4,478 metre peak in the Pennine Alps, straddling the border between Switzerland and Italy. It is one of the most iconic mountains in the Alps, with its pyramidal peak and sharply rising walls. The mountain, which was first summited in 1865, was formed by movement of the African tectonic plate against the European plate and has been a popular destination for mountaineers since then.

One of the best ways to admire the Matterhorn is from Zermatt, a charming ski resort, and perhaps the most popular place in the world for Matterhorn views. From Zermatt, one can take a cable car or hike up the slopes of Schwarzsee to get a birds-eye view of the Matterhorn. Those who are brave enough can even take part in the famous mountain climb. The Matterhorn is a sight to behold, with its snow-capped peak and steep rock faces. But its beauty is at its peak in spring and summer, when the sun is out and the snow has melted to reveal the many hues of its ephemeral ice and rock faces. From the right angle, the station at Klein Matterhorn also gives the Matterhorn a very surreal look. So, grab your hiking boots and head to Zermatt for your adventure of a lifetime.
