The Martyrs Catholic Shrine Basilica - Namugongo is a holy site in the capital city of Kampala, Uganda. It was built during colonial times and dedicated to the memory of the martyrs of Uganda, a group of Christian boys killed by King Mwanga II in 1886. This Basilica is particularly important to Uganda's Catholic community, both as a reminder of their cultural heritage and as a place of worship. Visitors to the Martyrs Shrine can enjoy the architecture, the large central courtyard and the numerous memorials honoring the martyrs. There is also a museum detailing the history of the martyrs, and a gift shop selling religious keepsakes and souvenirs. Every 3rd June, the shrine holds an annual main Jubilee celebration in honor of the martyrs.
