Martha Brae River
📍 From Raft, Jamaica
The Martha Brae River winds through the lush interior of Trelawny Parish, a short distance from Falmouth on Jamaica’s north coast. It is best known for guided journeys on long bamboo rafts, steered by local captains with poles along gently flowing, green-tinted water. Dense tropical vegetation leans over sections of the river, creating layered reflections and pockets of shade, while brighter openings reveal the contrast between pale bamboo, vivid foliage, and the dark river surface. The narrow rafts, often carrying just a few passengers, give photographs a strong sense of scale and are the most recognizable element of the Martha Brae scene.
