Marienburg Castle near Pattensen, Germany is one of the largest Gothic castle complexes in all of Europe. Constructed in the 13th century, the castle originally served for residential purposes for the prince-elector of Hanover. Today, the castle features spectacular architecture, with a variety of towers, turrets, and other features. Despite it's age, the castle remains in remarkable condition and is open to the public year round. Visitors can explore the courtyard and gardens, and venture into some of the castle's many rooms. The Great Hall and the State Dining Room are particularly interesting, as much of the original furniture remains to this day. In the High and Low Castle Courts, visitors can view historical artifacts and art pieces, as well as find out more about the castle's long and varied history.
