Margam Castle is a 19th-century Tudor Gothic mansion set within Margam Country Park on the eastern edge of Port Talbot. Despite its name and battlements, it is not a medieval fortress: it was built in the 1830s and 1840s for Christopher Rice Mansel Talbot, whose family shaped the wider Margam estate. Turrets, crenellated rooflines, tall mullioned windows and an imposing entrance give the house its romantic, castle-like silhouette, especially when viewed across the lawns. The surrounding park also contains the remains of Margam Abbey and the long 18th-century Orangery, placing the mansion within a landscape that reflects several distinct periods of Welsh architectural history.
