Mantua (Mantova in Italian) is a city in the Lombardy region of northern Italy. Located on the Mincio River, it is famous for its UNESCO-listed monuments, museums, and palaces. With its long and rich history, Mantua is well-known for art, architecture and gastronomy. The historic centre is surrounded by a ring of 14th century walls and is home to several popular sights, such as the Palazzo Ducale, Piazza Sordello, Rotonda di San Lorenzo, and Santa Barbara Church. You should also visit the elegant City Hall, the Church of Sant'Andrea and its beautiful Gothic façade, and the Romanesque Basilica of Santa Maria delle Grazie. A great way to experience the city is by bike, and the magnificent Mincio Park is the perfect spot for an outdoor picnic. Mantua is home to numerous theatres, cafes and restaurants, so during your visit you should take the time to explore these charming places and get to know the local culture.
