📍 From Drone, United States
At the southern edge of Big Cypress National Preserve in Collier County, freshwater draining through the swamp meets the brackish estuaries of Southwest Florida and the Ten Thousand Islands. Here, mangrove forest replaces the preserve’s better-known cypress wetlands, forming a living transition between inland watershed and Gulf Coast. Red mangrove prop roots crowd tidal creeks, trapping sediment and sheltering fish, birds, and other wildlife. For photographs, the scene is defined by tangled root patterns, dark tannin-stained water, layered green foliage, and narrow waterways where reflections can make the forest feel almost enclosed.
