📍 From Inside, Sweden
Malmö City Library stands beside Slottsparken in central Malmö, where a former museum building meets a striking modern library wing. The older section, known as the Castle, has brick façades, steep roofs and turrets that contrast with the broad glass walls of the Calendar of Light, designed by Danish architect Henning Larsen and opened in 1997. A cylindrical entrance building connects the two, making the complex a visible conversation between historic and contemporary architecture. Inside the modern wing, a lofty reading hall looks directly onto the park, with trees and changing foliage forming a backdrop to the bookshelves. From outside, reflections of greenery soften the glass façade; inside, the window grid and stacked levels give the space its distinctive sense of scale and order.
