The Maentwrog Dam is a flood control dam and hydroelectric power plant built in the Dwyryd Valley, in North Wales. It is located directly below Moel Hebog, which is the highest peak of the Rhinog Mountains, and far-reaching views over the Valley can be seen from it. The power generated by the hydroelectric installation is stored in Llyn Trawsfynydd. The nearby Ystumiau Reservoir was constructed to divert water from five local rivers to the Dam and power plant, allowing the creation of a series of mills and locks. The Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) provides an ideal habitat to a variety of bird species. Visitors can walk along the reservoir, as well as have a picnic or fly a kite at the nearby Victor Pass. Wildlife photographers can take advantage of the stunning scenery and capture some of the most impressive images to be found in the area, including birds in flight and fish swimming around the Dam.
