Cerro del Tío Pío is a hill in the Retiro district of Madrid, Spain. It is an iconic sight in the Spanish capital, due to its unique shape. The hill is made up of pink granite, a type of sandstone. It overlooks Madrid’s main avenue, the Gran Vía, and many of the city’s main monuments, such as the Baroque palace of Cibeles and the Renaissance style Buen Retiro Park. There is a small shrine at the summit of the hill dedicated to St. Anthony the Great, for whom the monument was named. The hill is a tourist attraction and visitors can climb to the top for a great look at the city below. Cerro del Tío Pío is a great spot for both tourists and photographers looking to capture unique views of Madrid.
