The Madrasah Gate, in the centre of Athina, Greece, is a must see for travelers and photographers. The historical building is the only remnant of a former madrasa, or Islamic theological school, which was part of a wall that surrounded the old city of Athina during the Ottoman period. The gate has two towers and an impressive arch, both inside and outside, which are decorated with geometric ornaments of brick and marble. The gate is illuminated at night, making it all the more spectacular. Standing at the Madrasah Gate, you can look up and down the street to get a glimpse of the old Ottoman city and, to the other side, to the modern signature towers that serve as a reminder of the city’s more recent history. The Madrasah Gate is a great spot for capturing the beauty of the city’s past.
