Lumi Vjosë at Iliras is a stretch of the Vjosa River in southern Albania, part of the river system that begins in Greece as the Aoös and reaches the Adriatic Sea. Celebrated for its largely free-flowing course, the Vjosa forms the core of Vjosa Wild River National Park. Around Iliras, the river’s pale gravel banks, shifting channels and blue-green water reveal the natural processes that dams and engineered embankments have erased from many European rivers. Wide views emphasize the contrast between the open riverbed, cultivated valley slopes and rugged mountain relief, while seasonal changes in water level continually reshape the scene.
