The Luís I Bridge (also known as Douro or Gaia Bridge) is an iconic bridge located in the city of Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal. It crosses the Douro River, connecting Porto with Vila Nova de Gaia. Opened in 1886 and designed by Teófilo Seyrig, this remarkable feat of engineering took three years to build. The bridge is composed of three arches of varying sizes, with the tallest reaching nearly 40 meters. Luís I Bridge is not only one of the most picturesque bridges in Portugal, but is also an important cultural landmark in the city, connecting two of the country’s oldest towns. A magnificent sight by day, the bridge is even more awe-inspiring by night when you can see the large granite pillars lit up, making it a great place for a romantic evening stroll. With its perfect blend of old-world grandeur and modern architecture, the bridge offers plenty of great photo opportunities!
