📍 From Louvre Pyramid, France
The Louvre Museum occupies the former royal palace on the Right Bank of the Seine, between the Tuileries Garden and the historic heart of Paris. Opened as a public museum in 1793, it preserves collections spanning ancient civilizations, European painting, sculpture, and decorative arts, including the Mona Lisa, the Venus de Milo, and the Winged Victory of Samothrace. Its architecture records centuries of transformation, from medieval fortress foundations to Renaissance and classical palace façades. In the Cour Napoléon, I. M. Pei’s glass pyramid, completed in 1989, creates a striking geometric counterpoint to the ornate stone wings; reflecting pools, repeated arches, and the long central axis toward the Tuileries make this exterior one of Paris’s most recognizable compositions.
