Lone Pine Cemetery, in Kocadere, Turkey, is the final resting place of soldiers from the Australian and New Zealand forces who fought in the Battle of Gallipoli in World War I. This cemetery is a solemn and peaceful memorial to the courage and sacrifice of these soldiers in one of the most harrowing battles of the Great War. It is located on the road leading to Anzac Cove, overlooking the Aegean Sea and the Aegean Strait. The cemetery contains the remains of around 2000 soldiers in several huge memorial stones. Visitors to the cemetery can pay their respects to these soldiers by placing a poppy on the stones, or simply sitting and reflecting upon the courage of those that made the ultimate sacrifice.
