Lindoso Granaries
📍 From Castle of Lindoso, Portugal
The Lindoso Granaries in Lindoso, Portugal, are a unique architectural monument that dates back to the 16th century. This innovative form of grain storage was used until only recently in many mountain villages in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula. The village of Linoso is one of the few still-active examples of the style.

Granaries in Lindoso are composed of multistorey, white cube-like structures built from granite which are divided up into three or four rooms measuring between one and two metres high. The roofs and walls are constructed out of hefty slabs of granite, and there is a door through which to access the structure. This ancient structure stands out against the hilly landscape of Serra do Gerês National Park. It is worth exploring not only for its architectural value but also for its scenic views of the surrounding area. It is still possible to spot the structure's original purpose across the village, as many of the granaries are still employed for storing wheat, corn and other grains.
