Lilienstein is a prominent sandstone table mountain in Saxon Switzerland, southeast of Lohmen and across the Elbe from Königstein. Rising to 415 metres within a broad bend of the river, it is the only major table mountain in the region on the Elbe’s right bank. Sheer, weathered cliffs support a wooded summit plateau, creating the isolated, flat-topped silhouette that makes Lilienstein one of the valley’s most recognizable landforms. From the summit paths, views open toward Königstein Fortress, the winding Elbe and the layered mesas and ridges of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. The ascent is on foot and includes steep stairways and narrow rock passages; changing light often emphasizes the pale cliff faces against the dark forest.
