The Lighthouse of Chania is located at the entrance of the port of Chania in the area of Akti Tompazi on the northwest coast of Crete. It was built in the early 19th century and it stands tall at 24m. The lighthouse stands on a white two-storey structure featuring red-tiled roof. The round stone-built tower is still active and emits light of white and red colors. Access to the actual lighthouse is restricted but the stunning views from the surroundings make it a popular spot among tourists, photographers, and nature enthusiasts alike. The seafront area around the lighthouse is equipped with benches and includes an open space amphitheater where summer festivals are held each year. A great spot to explore the magical location of the Lighthouse of Chania is definitely the nearby Lighthouse Park and fort of Koules.
