📍 Germany
Majestically perched on the Michelsberg near Kelheim, the Liberation Hall (Befreiungshalle) is a grand monument commissioned by King Ludwig I to commemorate German victories over Napoleon. Completed in 1863, it features a monumental rotunda surrounded by 34 colossal statues symbolizing the German tribes. Inside, 18 marble goddesses stand hand in hand as a sign of unity, and an intricate frieze depicts significant battles. Climb the spiral staircase for panoramic views of the Danube and Altmühl rivers. Access is fairly easy by foot or car, and nearby boat tours to Weltenburg Abbey make a great day trip. Tickets can be purchased on-site or online.
