The Legislative Assembly of Ontario is the province’s elected, unicameral law‑making body, convening in the Ontario Legislative Building at Queen’s Park in Toronto. It’s where provincial laws, budgets and question periods shape daily life across Ontario, making the site both politically central and symbolically important. Historically, the Assembly’s roots predate Confederation, with the modern institution established at Confederation in 1867; the current Legislative Building, completed in 1893, provided a permanent home for provincial government business.
Architecturally the building is a late‑19th‑century stone edifice in the Richardsonian Romanesque vein, notable for its robust masonry, rounded arches and a clearly defined central chamber that houses the Assembly’s green‑benched debating chamber and galleries for public observation. Interior features include decorative woodwork, murals and memorials that reflect Ontario’s political history. Unique visitor aspects: public galleries allow observation when the Assembly sits, and guided tours explain the legislative process and point out portraits, plaques and the collection of statues and commemorative monuments on the Queen’s Park grounds that honor Ontario’s political and cultural figures.
