📍 From Pont Perrière, France
The Thiou is the short river that carries water from Lake Annecy through the city’s old town before joining the Fier. Its channels once powered mills and supported local industry, making the waterway part of Annecy’s working history as well as its familiar townscape. Along the old-town quays, pastel façades, stone embankments and small bridges frame the river, with reflections adding a second layer of color and architectural detail. The most recognizable scene centers on the Palais de l’Isle, a historic stone building that served as a prison and occupies an island between two channels. Its pointed outline contrasts with the softer colors of the surrounding houses, while the dividing water makes the building’s unusual position immediately clear.
