Laxmi Vilas Palace, the royal residence of the Maharaja of Baroda, dominates the city of Vadodara. Built in the late 19th century, and designed by legendary British architects Major Charles Mant and Robert Fellowes Chisholm, the palace has a façade of over 218m and is a remarkable example of Indo-Saracenic architecture. The palace is now a museum, with a number of galleries and exhibits. You can explore the palace grounds and appreciate the beautiful gardens, fountains and a large lake, along with an extensive collection of vintage cars and a toy train that can be enjoyed by visitors of all ages. The grand Darbar Hall and the palace’s famous stained glass windows and marble floors are also worth a visit. Guided tours and interactive multimedia exhibits tell the fascinating story of the maharajas of Baroda and the palace’s history.
