Las Cañadas del Teide is a vast volcanic caldera in Tenerife’s central highlands, above La Orotava and within Teide National Park. Its floor lies at roughly 2,000 metres, with the cone of Teide rising above pale pumice plains, dark lava flows and sparse high-mountain vegetation. Steep caldera walls frame the basin to the south, while the Roques de García form a recognizable cluster of eroded rock pinnacles beneath the volcano. The landscape’s visual character comes from these contrasts: near-black lava against cream-colored deposits, jagged outcrops against broad plains, and the towering summit behind them. Native Teide broom adds another layer of texture, softening parts of this otherwise stark geological setting.
