Lantern Carriers is a striking public art installation located in Helsinki, Finland. Created by the renowned Finnish sculptor and designer, Stefan Lindfors, this artwork serves as both a functional and aesthetic landmark in the city. Situated at the entrance of the Kamppi Chapel of Silence, a popular spot for contemplation and respite amidst the urban hustle, the Lantern Carriers sculpture enhances the serene atmosphere of the area.
The installation features two large, human-like figures, each holding a lantern, symbolizing guidance and illumination. Crafted from a combination of steel and glass, these figures stand out for their modern design and the way they interact with natural light, creating a dynamic visual experience that changes with the time of day and the seasons. The Lantern Carriers not only highlight Lindfors' unique artistic vision but also reflect the Finnish appreciation for art that harmonizes with its surroundings. This installation is particularly significant as it complements the architectural simplicity and spiritual purpose of the Kamppi Chapel, designed by architects Mikko Summanen, Niko Sirola, and Kimmo Lintula. Visitors to Helsinki are often drawn to this area to experience the fusion of contemporary art and architecture, making it a must-see for those interested in modern design and urban art.
