๐ From Strada Cisles, Italy
Langkofel, known in Italian as Sassolungo, is the 3,181-metre peak that dominates the mountain skyline south of Santa Cristina in Val Gardena, South Tyrol. It is the principal summit of the Sassolungo group, a compact Dolomite massif near the Sella Pass. Its German, Italian and Ladin name, Saslonch, reflect the multilingual culture of this Alpine valley. Towering pale rock walls and jagged pinnacles rise above the forests and meadows around Monte Pana, creating a striking contrast between pastoral foregrounds and rugged mountain architecture. Low-angle sunlight can tint the dolomitic cliffs pink and orange, the characteristic Alpine glow known locally as enrosadira.
