Lake Ohrid meets the village of Ljubanishta on its southeastern shore, near North Macedonia’s border with Albania and the monastery of Saint Naum. Shared by the two countries, this ancient freshwater lake is known for its clear water and distinctive wildlife, including the endemic Ohrid trout. Galičica mountain rises to the east, separating the Ohrid basin from Lake Prespa, while mountains across the water give the broad lake horizon a layered outline. Ljubanishta’s beach offers a low, open perspective, with the shoreline providing foreground detail against the expanse of water. Nearby Saint Naum adds an important cultural dimension: its Orthodox monastery stands beside freshwater springs that feed the lake, bringing religious heritage and the lake’s hydrology into the same landscape.
