Laguna Otún is a high-Andean lake in Los Nevados National Natural Park, within the mountain territory of Santa Rosa de Cabal, Risaralda. At roughly 3,900 metres above sea level, it occupies a landscape shaped by glaciers near the Nevado Santa Isabel massif. The lake feeds the Otún River, connecting these upland wetlands with Pereira, where the river is an important source of drinking water. Surrounding páramo vegetation, including tussock grasses and frailejones, gives the shoreline a distinctive texture and reveals the ecological character of Colombia’s tropical high mountains. Broad slopes and open water create a strong sense of scale; when the surface is calm, reflections of the mountains and passing clouds become a defining feature of the scene.
