📍 Colombia
Laguna de Siscunsí is a high-altitude lagoon in the páramo above Sogamoso, in Boyacá’s Eastern Cordillera. Its surroundings are shaped by the cold, wet conditions of the Colombian Andes, with tussock grasses and frailejones, the distinctive woolly-leaved plants of these mountain ecosystems. Páramo vegetation and soils retain water and help regulate its flow into lower valleys, giving the landscape importance beyond its scenery. The lagoon’s water contrasts with the textured, largely treeless slopes, while the upright silhouettes of frailejones provide a recognizable foreground against the hills and low cloud.
