Lago di San Bernolfo is a small alpine lake above the hamlet of San Bernolfo, in a side valley of the Valle Stura di Demonte near Vinadio, in Piedmont’s Cuneo province. Its setting in the Maritime Alps brings together larch woods, alpine grassland and rugged rocky slopes close to the French border. The contrast between the water and the steep surrounding terrain defines the scene: when the surface is still, reflected ridgelines add depth, while trees along the shore give a sense of scale to the mountains beyond.
