Lago di Landro, known in German as Dürrensee, lies in South Tyrol’s Val di Landro between Dobbiaco and Cortina d’Ampezzo, beside the historic route through the northern Dolomites. The shallow alpine lake is framed by pale limestone peaks, conifer woods and broad gravelly shores, with the Cristallo massif dominating views to the south. Its blue-green water can produce clear mountain reflections in calm conditions, while changing water levels reveal textured banks that emphasize the scale of the surrounding cliffs. The Italian and German place names reflect the bilingual character of this part of Italy. Easily visible from the valley road, the lake offers a distinctive foreground for the angular Dolomite skyline.
